LOSS OF FOCUS
FLEXIBILITY
NEARSIGHTEDNESS
EYE FATIGUE
RETINAL DAMAGE
SLEEP LOSS
The blue light from screens tricks the brain into thinking that it is daytime. This can shift your sleep cycle, leading to sleep loss.
DRYNESS & IRRITATION
We tend to blink less when using a screen which leads to the drying out of our eyes. This dryness can cause irritation and blurry vision.
LOSS OF FOCUS FLEXIBILITY
Staring at a screen close to your face for a prolonged period of time makes it harder for your eyes to focus on different distances quickly.
NEARSIGHTEDNESS
The more time spent using screens leads to less time spent in natural daylight. It has been proven that this can lead to nearsightedness.
EYE FATIGUE
Screen usage can cause fatigue in the eyes. This can lead to double vision, headaches, and difficulty concentrating.
RETINAL DAMAGE
Blue light from screens can reach the retina in the back of the eye. Blue light can damage the cells within the retina, leading to macular degeneration and a possible loss of eyesight.
TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR EYES
TAKE A BREAK
Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will help reduce a loss of focus flexibility.
KEEP EYES MOIST
Use eye drops or artificial tears to mimic the effect of blinking.
INCREASE DISTANCE
Keep your screen an arm’s length away or 25 inches from your eyes.
ADJUST LIGHTING
Adjusting the lighting setting on your screens can reduce the blue light that affects your eyes.
REDUCE GLARE
Make sure there is no glare from external lights in order to keep extra light from damaging your eyes.
YEARLY EYE EXAM
Make sure to keep regular appointments with your eye doctor to ensure that everything is okay.
